Yesterday I was trying to render an animation in Blender (of my "Manta" model; see image)
Manta Model. Blender kept crashing though, and so I'm now working on it in Modo instead.
So far, progress is slow due to the learning curve of a new program. It also seems to simply have a slower interface than Blender. Just having a keyboard shortcut for the add polygon command (like Blender's f-key) would speed things up considerably.
BUT — and it's a huge but — Modo does seem to do what I expect a little more. Blender was rendering the mesh in strange ways that I wouldn't have expected based on the 3D view. This did turn out to be a problem with my mesh, as Modo showed the problem right away in edit mode and let me correct it.
So, I spent some time last night fixing that and generally cleaning up the mesh. Modo supports nGons as well as quads and tris, which is very interesting.
Anyway, Modo has already provided a nice tool or two, and I'm looking forward to painting/texturing the model soon. I don't think it has any support for particles, so I might need to work around that gap somehow.
