Seems Jono Bacon is writing a new book, The Art of Community, under a creative commons license. This is very cool.
Free Software has some amazing communities (I think I read once that Debian alone is the biggest human project ever undertaken, but I don’t have any links to back that up), and there are always some interesting insights around on all of that.
For me though, the big thing here is that we’ll have a book from the free software community on more than just free software — a generally applicable book, about building communities — at the very least, online communities. That’ll be of interest to many people, I think. I can think of some charity and other groups that could really benefit from it, for instance.
Hopefully it’ll turn out to be as good as I’d hoped. We’ll see. It’s just getting started, but feeds are on the project site, if anyone wants to keep up to date with its progress.
